Unhappy 1.9 td hard to start when warm

It has always been hard to start when warm ever since I have had it , it always starts but turns over for ages then starts and gives off a big cloud of unburnt fuel , form cold it starts as I would expect it too . It has had two sets of plugs and has had a new glowplug relay(the one just behind the battery ) it has just had a relay replaced ( the one in the same compartment as the ecu) as a mechanic told me that sure as eggs that would be the cause as its a common fault , well sure as eggs it isnt because it hasnt maade any difference at all. It is now really getting on my t!ts , it is more embarassing as everyone starts looking over when it sounds like it isnt going to start then it does with the big cloud of diesel . It has always had the engine management light lit since i bought the car and the previous owner had bought it as a non runner and had the fuel injector pump overhaulled to get it running again, Any help gratefully received .

Have you had a compression test done on it?

No bu it runs perfect when it is started so the garage I use has sort of discounted that theory but I may get them to do one on it

My 1.9 306 is hard to start when cold, but fine when warm, so I'm just guessing! Possible that something is not sealing right when the metal expands under the heat. Warped head maybe? No white gunk under the oil filler cap or oil in the expansion tank?

What fault code is in it?
Does the engine run with a diesel knock?
Could be the advance solenoid or the needle lift sensor.
Get a diag check done.

Sounds suspect....These 1.9 td's don't give any problems when starting
unless they have a few glow plugs blown.
I'd suspect the injector pump was'nt overhauled correctly...

As I dont know the history of it I suspect the injector pump isnt set up corectly , I have had the car for 18 months and it hasnt got any better or any worse , It has no white gunk and has no knock , it runs sweet as a nut it is just a pig starting when warm .

Might be egr valve. Try unplugging it when the engine is cold.

The egr valve is at the back of the engine around bulkhead area...theres
no plugging out as they are vacuum controlled...Don't think its egr valve related...
