Default Depollution System Faulty - Engine Temperature too high

I own a peugeot 407 1.8 petrol 2006 model. For last couple of months, there have been error warning - 'Breaklights faulty', 'Right hand indicators faulty' etc. Although all the lights were fine but I changed the bulbs. It appeared changing bulbs didnt cure the problem. After a week or so, the warning stopped.
Two days since the above problem was sorted, Yesterday, driving back from work, A hazard warning appeared on the panel saying 'Engine temperature too high' STOP. I stopped immediately as didnt want to risk it. It seemed that coolant was finished. Replaced with a little bit of water as there wasnt any car shops around. Started the car next day but immediately the same warning came on. This time there was another warning 'Depollution system faulty'. As I knew engine was cold, I drove home (only about 5 mins). During the journey, the temperature gauge dropped to normal for 2 seconds but shot straight back up and same fault messages.
Can someone please help!!! I have already spent 4k on different items in last year.

Get the coolant problem checked ASAP. Check for coolant in the engine wiring loom. Remove the connector from the coolant temp sensor, if its wet, get the wiring checked.

As for rear lamps problem, the lamps need modified earths fitted.
