Has anyone had any problems when trying to get their peugeot repaired under warranty.
My turbo seal has recently started leaking and peogeot are refusing to repair it because my last service was performed by a garage that wasnt vat registered. Since when does being VAT registered have anything to do with their competency to perform a service? I am not a happy bunny

apparently the warranty still stands if this is the case, but they kick a stink up about it and will try get not to be a valid claim...
has the rest of the services been with the dealer?

Yep full service history from Robins and Day in Preston. I only used a local guy the last time because it was an interim service and only needed the basics doing.

See you in court! usually works! Then they'll usually fix it as a good will gesture!

Well hopefully it wont come to that - but I am very prepared to complain all over the web. Does Anne Robinson still do Watch Dog? I might set her on them.

Robins and Days...hated going to those "know nothing" barstewards!
when i had a siezed locking nut on my car, went to gateshead branch and asked them to try and remove it (obviously pay for labour) they thought i was stupid by saying "it needs to be connected to the computer to dianose it" you can imagine what i said, began with f and ended in f. especially at the time i had a planet system of my own ![]() simon bailes is just as bad. although the parts guy at boro doesnt spew shite anyways stevo has a good point.

As the law stands, it can be serviced wherever and the warranty maintained. However, if it is done for 'profit or gain' (ie, by a business) they must be VAT registered. Peugeots stance (not Robins and Day - it's pug that pay for all this and R&D will only do as they've been told) is quite lawful and correct. A lot of small businesses or one man bands like myself will be sole traders and not VAT registered, and it doesn't mean that the standard of their work is any less, but it entitles Peugeot to quite lawfully tell you to ferk off in this instance. You've been cheap, and it's turned into an expensive lesson. You saved, what, £50 odd on a service and it's going to cost you 10 or more times that because you never did your homework. Slagging a business off for a situation you created through being tight is going to land you in court, not them on Watchdog. On top of that, you've not shown them any goodwill so I don't see why they are morally obliged to show you any in return.

OK first of all I was completely unaware that the garage was not VAT registered - probably should have checked but its not really something I would have expected to be an issue.
Secondly I am not slagging peugeot off - i am just enquiring as to if this kind of situation has come up with anyone else. I have had peugeots for years and they have always been great cars. |

Well, you know now.
The law's a bit twisted on this. A private individual who is a "competent engineer" can service their own car and maintain the warranty, provided OE quality parts are used and the schedule adhered to etc, yet a non-VAT registered business can't. From my time spannering, Nissan were the rear tight bar stewards with warranties. for example, when the bushes failed in the P10 and P110 Primera front suspender top links, which they did very often, they would never pay for new bushes but would have us dismantle them and turn them through 90 degrees before refitting them. Indeed, it got so bad that rather than issuing a recall they decided to issue a service bulletin stating that up to 10mm (yes, a centimetre!!!) of play was within spec to stop them all failing their MOTs! In comparison, Pug aren't that bad at all. As a consumer, who's always played it by the book with warranties and servicing, I've never had a raised eyebrow from them, and getting a £20,500 car replaced under warranty after 46 days was pretty painless to be fair.

Well fingers crossed they will let me off this time! And then the first thing I will do is sign up to the Robins and Day service scheme.
What was wrong with your car that meant the whole thing needed replacing? |
