308 engine warm up times

Just bought (Monday) my other half a 58 reg 1.4 308 with 12k on the clock. Seems to take ages to warm up - e.g. about 10 miles to start blowing any heat. All driving is local - no motorway.

Is this usual, or, as i suspect, do you think the thermostat may be sticking? Should I take the car back to the dealers?

Sorry for my ignorance - but I'm not even a budding mechanic - just an OAP trying to eke out the pension!

Do you turn the blowers on straight away? If so, I think it will take a little longer to warm up (especially at full blast).
10 miles does sound a little excessive though.

I just got my 2010 308 S 1.4 petrol today, and I can see it gets warm a lot quicker than my 307 1.6 diesel did.

Nothing like 10 miles anyway.

Should have warm air coming out after 2-3 mins really (even my 2.0HDI does, and thats not the fastest in the world to warm up), but as mentioned, keep blower speed relatively low until the warm air starts coming out.

the HDI engine block is about 75kg heaver than the petrol , hence the longer time to warm up

If you have climate control leave it on auto.As was said before don't try blow warm air straight away.

I leave my climate control set at auto , as cabinpac says . Temp is set at 23 both sides & depending on outside temp , I get warm air within 2-6 mins !!
