Default Peugeot 307 1.6 rapier petrol fuel economy

Hi all,

I changed from a 1.2 punto to a 1.6 307 a while ago and obviously didn't expect the engine to be as frugal. However, for every 30 litres of fuel I put in, I only get about 160 miles, which is a fuel economy of about 26mg CORRECTION 24.2!!!! Official is about 39!

Can anyone tell me if this the usual story or if it just me. If so what can I do to fix this because it is eating my pocket!!!!

BTW i'm not a boy racer type, I drive in 4th or 5th at 30 and leave it in gear when decelerating.

Thanks everyone.

also driving at 30 while in 5th gear wont help your fuel figures. i never use 5th below 50 mph

Question Mine also shows low mpg (less than 28 mpg).

The average speed is 16mph for I am driving it almost in town. What can I do to improve it? If I continulusly get such a low mpg, I should think of selling it.
Mine is 2003 307 SW HDI with 63,000 miles. Please help me.

Simple stuff like checking your tyre pressure (when was the last time you done it?)and changing your airfilter will help.
