Default Installing new Radio

Hi

Just got my 55 plate 307 HDI and looking at replacing Radio with a Kenwood unit. Got all plug in iso leads with column controls but unsure what to do with battery. I have seen that before installation the negative lead must be removed is this correct? also if I do this do I need to follow a BSI procedure ?

Sorry for dumb questions but cant seem to find clear instructions

Any help appreciated
