Default Aux drive belt damaged - 2.0 HDi

Finally got the antipollution fault cleared but changing the turbo control electrovalve and then ofc I start her yesterday morning and I get a loud unhealthy noise so i shut her off straight away. I jacked her up to below and a small strip of rubber off the aux belt had came of and the belt has frayed at 2 points leaving stringy bits dangling from it. The belt is still fully intact but I havent started the car again yet.

Obviously the belt needs changed but will this have caused any other damage?

cheers

Remove the belt and check the pulley bearings and tensioner.

New belts.new tensioners,,i've always replaced my tensioners when replacing belts. as the tensioners get old they tend to sieze or the bearings start to go,if its apart for the belts you can't go wrong fitting new tensioners.

When any pulley bearing wears, it can tilt the pulley on its axis, and drive the belt sideways, causing it to wear at the edges and get stringy bits hanging. That is until it eventually snaps or falls off.

I think thats what the noise was, a frayed bit getting caught and breaking off

Dont know much about these hdi engines, but on my volvo diesel, the aux drive belt snapped at 60mph, whipped around the engine, cracked the plastic timing belt housing and took out the timing belt. That was costly.....bent valves etc

Im getting both my belts (aux n timing) with all the tensioners etc done tomorrow. My local parts guy got me the aux belt and tensioner, a water pump, oil+air+fuel filters for under £40. The belt and tensioner on ebay is that price alone. I should mention i do get them at trade price without any on costs.

To be honest, they sound too cheap to be true.
What brand are they?

Sound far too cheap.... either that, or prices for Joe Bloggs off the street are phenomenally high compared to what the trade are paying
