Hi. I've discovered my wifes 307 sw 1.6 has a switch fitted to the underside of the accelerator pedal. whats it for ??

as jmkent suggest, if she has the cruise control with limiter function, its used to overcome the speed limit as set on limiter. you floor it and it continues speeding up

no , the switch only works on contact with the floor

exactly, once you floor it, and pedal is all the way down on the floor, switch would be operated and the car would overcome the speed limitation set by the limiter on cc stalk.
now if you say that yours doesnt have cc? then i guess either the cc stalk might have been taken out, or the pedal was replaced with the one that has extra switch for speed limiter function. post last 8 digits of your vin and someone on here can check that for ya.
