9 times out of 10 my 307 will make a grinding type noise on start up. any idea what it could be.

Not much info to go on. Can you have someone start the car for you whilst you have your head under the bonnet to establish the approx area the noise comes from?
Could be starter motor or a pulley amongst other things. |

when starting push in the clutch if no noise then the noise may be from the clutch or gearbox,
hopefully if the noise is intermittent then its something loose, (starter perhaps) as already said could be a pulley or even the fan belt. |
