Starting issues confusing me! Please help!

Hi,
my Peugeot runs absolutely fine once started, however to start it, if you just turn the key normally (waiting for the orange light to go out as it is a diesel) then nothing happens, doesn't even tick over or try to start. However if you have your foot on the accelerator (and only a tiny bit does it) then it starts absolutely fine. It's a 1995 reg diesel 306.

Am very confused!

Any help or suggestions very much appreciated!

hi there had some problem with my dt does your air bag light come on when you turn it on ?
with my 1 it didn't come on after glow plug light goes out wait 8 s then start try with pedal to floor first time let me know what happens
