Remote central locking problem.

The Key fob came with the car and had flat batteries (red LED not lighting) i have replaced the batteries and it is still not working. any ideas. please bring me back into the 21st century.

How old is the car? The infra red keyless entry on the older 306s required you aim quite close to the sensor by the rear view mirror.
