Unhappy Peugeot 306 - Clicking noise when driving and now car won't start!!

I recently bought a 94 Peugeot 306 from a dealer. He seemed very nice until I had bought the car and noticed a clicking noise while I was driving - I have emailed him countless times and he hasn't emailed back and the number I had for him has been disconnected. Does not bode well.

Anyway, every so often while I'm driving the car will make clicking noises (a bit like the indicators are on) but usually stops when I corner or turn on my indicators. It wasn't so much a problem, more just a distraction, but then the car started having issues with starting, sometimes starting straight away, other times taking a half hour to start...very frustrating.

Now though, my car just won't start at all - I drove over to my mate's house, which is about a 10 min drive, and the car seemed fine, but when I got to hers and put the car into reverse to park, before I'd even released the clutch the car just died and even though the car sounded like it was starting, the engine won't catch at all! I called the AA when this happened and they said it was probably the ignition switch that was gone, but from my experience this wouldn't have caused all the other problems, so maybe I have multiple things wrong with the car!!

I'm thinking maybe the timing belt needs replacing (can't find out when it was last done, if ever) or the starter motor possibly? I'm a bit rubbish with cars, but I'm desperately in need of this one as public transport where I'm living is almost non-existent!! Also I've had two cars written off this year thanks to idiots stealing and crashing them, so I'm too skint to buy a different one!

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated - or possible ideas of how much this is going to cost me?!

take it physically back to the dealer, tell him to fix it and if not you will be returning it due to unfit for purpose...perfectly within your rights if you bought the car within the last few months.

did the dealer fix your car or did you fix the problem yourself in the end

Hes lucky to have a dealer selling a '94 car - I don't know of any in this country that do, and even if they did, it would be bought as seen on a car of that age.
