Default Keys are gone, what do I do now?

Hi,

I have a 1995N 306 SLDT, and my car keys have been stolen (long story, life lesson learnt!). The car was searched through, glove compartment contents thrown everywhere etc, yet they didn't feel the need to steal anything inc. Ipod, fairly expensive quite new head unit (fascia still attached!), or even the car! They did bugger off with the only key however.....

I have looked around, and now understand that you need a key to be able to remove the ignition barrel. I am also aware that i need a key code to get a new one cut, plus a code for the immobiliser transponder, is this an expensive thing to do? Does my car even have an immobiliser?....it hasn't got a keypad, which newer ones have....

What is my best bet to being able to drive my car again?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Grant

Hi,

I tried to send a private message, but the forum won't allow it as I am a new member....

Thanks for your reply, my VIN number is VF37BD8A?????????.

Do I have to get the key from the dealer, or can key cutting shops do car keys with immobiliser chips? I can envisage being ripped off somewhere along the way, do you have a ballpark idea of how much a key should cost?

Thanks very much for your help,
Grant

You don`t need a transponder code key your car hasn`t got one , you just need a key code and a good auto locksmith to cut you one , would think £10-£20

Hi again,

I went to the locksmith today and after convincing him that I don't need a transponder he put the code into his system. He said that it wouldn't work as it had to be 8 characters long, and the one i have is 9.....

Is he wrong or could it be the code?

Thanks,
Grant

All sorted.....just about....

I went to a different locksmith today, and I have a new key. It works in the door locks and boot lock, but it won't go all the way into the ignition to be able to turn.

I only had one key before it got taken, and that worked all locks and ignition, so I think I can rule out the locks and ignition being different.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,
Grant

Did the new locksmith use the last 8 digits?

Not sure, should it matter? What difference does that make? Given that it is fine in all the locks....
