Interior fand have stopped working

The interior fan has stopped functioning in my 2000 x plate 306 2.0 hdi meridian. I have checked the fuses and have replaced the centre console which has the controls on, which didn't work. The heater controls do still work e.g. when i turn the heating on i can feel warm air through the vents when i am driving fast enough to create a flow through the system.
My question is: do you think it is most likely to be the main fan assembly and where is it located/how do i remove it to either service it or replace it?
