Hello peeps...
Ok, over the last couple of days I have looked at number of threads trying to find this issue to my problem. Threads have helped me but I am now stuck so here we go... The other day I was parked up (clod rainy morning) and I pressed the hazard lights, as soon as I pressed the hazard light all the dash lights went out and I could smell an electrical burn, I turned the car off by the ignition and the car did not stop at first, it ran for a few seconds and then cut out on its own. I tried starting the car again but no joy. I have since noticed the earth lead that comes from the passenger side wing that connects to the battery lead (crimped together) had burned off. After terminating this lead and connecting it back to the engine the car now starts but I think I can still smell an electrical burn inside the car and the STOP light is constantly on. The car runs fine, all electrics work as expected, all oils/water is at the correct levels and all fuses have been checked. Now for the questions... 1. Any idea what the electrical burn smell is? Is it possible that the burnt earth lead could of caused the electrical burn smell and now its lingering behind the dash? 2. Any ideas why the STOP light is on? (I have read lots of threads about checking oil/water levels and fuses, all these are fine) Items of note: I have checked the radiator connectors that seem to be a big problem and they are all fine, no overheating, no flickering needles or lights. I have just bleeded the rads and refilled while the car is 'off the road'. It might be me and has been there for ages but I am can hear water 'flowing' from the engine bay when I pull off and slow down. The STOP LIGHT is the only light that is on the dash, the ABS light was on also but I just refilled the steering fluid and now this does not stay on. The earth lead I have re-terminated and the battery earth lead have been connected to a different nut on the engine bay. I do notice that when the car is cold when I pull off I need to give some extra revs so it does not stall. Thanks in advance for any advice. Gazza |
