306 wont start

i have a 2litre 306xsi and was driving but suddenly lost power and engine cut out, i thought i ran out of petrol so went to fill it up and still wouldnt turn over, i have a feeling its the fuel pump but does anyone know the fuel pump are crap on these cars?

Car won`t turn over ,explain more detail, fuel pump won`t stop engine turning over .
