Unhappy 306 turbo diesel wont run.

Hi. the bottom pulley on the crank shaft was making strange noises took it of
to find out that it had broken where it slides onto the crankshaft. and had also broken part of the timing belt sproket replaced that the day along with a new timing belt but it is refusing to start with out pumping on the accelerator pedal even then when it starts there's clouds of smoke and wont keep running. checked the timing twice but still the same.
need help please!

You should do a compression test incase you have bent a valve.

Put the timing pins in to lock the flywheel and check if the cam is aligned, see if it has jumped a tooth. It's quite common with the pulley failures.

Definately looks like a compression issue to me. I'd still say timing or valves! Sorry I know that's not much use if you've ruled those out!

on the issue of timing correct me if any of this is wrong:-

crankshaft timing is set when the woodruff key on the crankshaft is at about 11 o'clock when the pin is inserted.

camshaft timing is when the pin is inserted into front edge of the cylinder head.

diesel pump is when one of the holes is about 12 o'clock and the pin is inserted again near the front edge.
when i mean the front edge i am refering to the front edge the front of the vechicle.

anyway the cylinder head will be going of to get pressure tested the morrow. will let you know how it gets on.
