Default Which 306?

I'm going to be looking for a replacement for my 308 within the next couple of months and I'm not sure what to go for.

I've previously had a 2000 306 HDi Dturbo and thought it was a fantastic car so I'm tempted to go for another facelift 306.
I'm not overly concerned about it being a diesel this time as i'm going to be doing lower mileage that I used to but I will most probably be looking for an estate.

Which 306 is the better engine, the 1.6, 1.8 or the 2.0 HDi?

What's the pro's and con's of the different ones?

Any other bits and bobs to look out of with the 306?

I've always found the 2.0 HDI to be fantastic.

Just had a look on " Carmony " found a 2002 1.9 D Meridian SW with A/C & only 19.000 on the clock , they want £2.295 for it ........

I've had 2 of the 306 with the 2.0HDI engine.... both extremely good cars/engines.... one got traded in at 157k, and the other written off at 191k.... both still going really well at these mileages

A GTi6! The diesels are far too dated to cut it with the modern stuff, and are painfully slow.

Isn't it a bit of a retrograde step from a 3008?

Yes, it's a step back from the 308 but there's no point in having an expensive car sitting doing hardly any miles as I don't use it much any more.
As much as I like the idea of a GTi6, I'd ideally like an estate to get the dogs in the back!

Get a 107 then. £20 road tax, and it's still fractionally quicker than the HDi while using less fuel and being in insurance group 1E. Buying an olde nacker to save a few quid never works out long term.

But then that's a smaller car than the 306 hatch or estate so it's not really much use!

I can't see how buying an old car to save a few quid doesn't work, unless you buy a complete nail that needs constant repairs doing to it.

When I got rid of my old 51 plate 307 the first thing I looked for was another 306!

When I went from the newish Punto to an old R reg 306 diesel it never needed anything other than a pair of tyres.
