Hi
I'm new here, but have been driving Peugeot's most of my life. My dad had (in no particular order) a 505, 406, 205 GTI, 407, and and a 206 Diesel, and I'm driving a 207 1.6 XS at the moment. I recently got married and due to circumstance is looking for a new car for my wife, and would like to get something that we could keep for a long time 5-10 year at least. We were looking at a 308, until the salesman showed us the 3008 1.6 THP Premium, which seems to have everything a family might need for a long time. However it would be a bit of a financial stretch, but we are very keen to try. The only big concern is the long term reliability and durability of the 3008. I know Peugeot doesn't have the best reputation regarding that, even though I personally have had no major issues (except both rear shocks failing after 7000km, but they were replaced under warranty and it hasn't given any other problem in the following 50000km). So my question is, to any and all 3008 owners: Are they reliable? Are there any common mechanical faults? Do you think a 3008 would be able to last 5-10 years without falling apart or requiring lots of maintenance? |

Are they reliable? My 2nd one has been awesome, my first suffered cruise failure, turbo failure, serious oil leak, seat handle becoming detached, and rust(!) on the doors, all within 46 days of new. So in my personal experience they're 50% reliable.
Will it last a decade? Of course it will, if properly serviced etc. Why shouldn't it?

Wow, that sounds like a lot of hassles to have on a single car in such a short time. Good on you for trying the same model again.

To be fair to Pug themselves, and Perrys MK, as each fault arose there were no hassles getting them quickly fixed, and no arguments when I rejected the car. I think they were mortified TBH. I'm loving the new one and Mrs Chopper adores it. I was going to replace it about now (she does nearly 20k miles a year so I like to bin them before the mileage starts to hammer the used value) but she wants to keep it another year, so I spent the money saved on booze and hookers.

So what mileage does it have on now? Anything broke on the 2nd one while you had it? What's your experience/opinion on the electric parking brake?

It should clock past 20k miles this week.
It's needed 4 x new boots - they weren't illegal, but were down to 4mm or so and were starting to make the car feel a bit squirrely at the back. I got a 3 month old baby on board, so skimping on rubber was not an option. The handbrake switch fell apart, but it wasn't a real issue as it still engaged with the ignition switched off. It was replaced without question under warranty at Bristol Street Maniacs, and if we're completely honest, between you and me, I think it's failure was due to the hamfistedness of a certain devillishly handsome chap It's a delight to drive, and woman has been able to tease more than 67MPG out of a tank, though mid to high 50's is more the norm. I'd have another in the blink of an eye, and may well yet do so - our next motor will either be a 3008 again, or a 508SW. Once the bairn is big enough not to need a pushchair then we're planning to down size - the 108 in 5 door flavour with the rumoured 133 BHP 1.2 turbo sounds quite delightful!

Thanks for all the feedback and input. Will let you know if we decide to take the plunge on one, but it really looks like a very nice all round practical car for any potential young ones in the near future.

Good luck. Few owners have anything bad to say about them, and excluding my first hound-dog model, most folk are finding them pretty robust.

1.6 hdi is a great car. Very economical and fast enough for what it is. I've also driven mine on an autobahn on several occasions, where I regularly saw an indicated top speed of 130 mph (210 kph) at just over 4,000 rpm in 6th on a level section of road.
Not bad for 112 bhp! Last edited by Bird dog; 10-11-2011 at 12:51 PM. |
