Default Electronic Hand Brake

3008 Active 120bhp
61 plate
Petrol
1.6

In the handbook it says the automatic parking brake can be deactivated. When I took the car for its 1 month levels check I asked the dealers to do this
They said that it cant be done
On the initial test drive, I thought it was a good idea, however after less than 3 weeks and 300 mile, the Electronic parking brake ECU decided to malfunction
Apart from that, I absolutely hate it, I want full control of the car, and this makes me feel like I haven’t
I love the car, im just hoping the dealership is wrong and it can in fact be deactivated
Can anybody confirm or deny what the dealers told me please
Thanks

What do you mean by deactivated? You can manually select the handbrake when you need to (in conjunction with pressing the brake peddle) or if you do not activate the handbrake when you turn the ignition off it will automatically set.

The only deactivation i can see is to deactivate the automatic setting when the ignition is turned off but I cannot see a good reason why you would want to. It will automatically release if not manually released when you pull off like a hill start function but this is very handy.

I have the 156thp petrol and I cannot see there being any difference with the hand brake settings between these models.

I found for the first 5 or 6 trips I was reaching for a hand brake leaver when stopped at junction or lights, but soon got used to it, you can treat it as a manual h/b you are just pushing a small leaver in conjunction with pressing the brake peddle instead of pulling a large one. And the hill start function is great: thumb:

If you were able to 'de-activate' the handbrake, how on earth would you apply it otherwise?? There's not a manual handbrake hidden away anywhere!

I think it's brilliant, wouldn't want to go back to the conventional type.

You can treat it as a manual handbrake as long as you press foot brake at the same time.

As aforementioned, you can both apply and release it manually, easy. Looks like you bought the wrong car if you can't handle it.
davidireland and jet_andy like this.

According to this thread in the German forum (Elektrische Festellbremse deaktivieren - Peugeot 3008 Forum)
one could deactivate it in older Software versions. In new Software versions that option does not show up in the menu any more.

However, one poster tells of his Dealer enabling that menu point for him again...

Darkly remember a similar thread in the French forum...

Further research in the French forum

Some people apparently disabled and enabled and disabled the automatically applied handbrake, forgot about it and had their cars.....so Peugeot tells their Dealers not to.....which could explain your Dealers reaction...

In the old days, when I learned about operating a motor vehicle, in the Alps, one has been told not to apply the handbrake after driving in the wet in winter as it could freeze.....according to Peugeot there should be no problem with that, well, I probably find out this Winter, at the latest during my skiing holidays.....

Anyway, first I did not like it either, now I am pretty used to it and do not mind it...so, maybe if you give it a bit of time...?...;-)
