Question Back end Slides

I have two 3008's, one 2009 and the other 2010 reg. The 2010 reg one when I go round corners tends to slide out at the rear end and now I find that I have to reduce my speed down to 20pmh to prevent it. I've checked the tyre tread and these are OK, I've checked the tyre pressure's and these are OK.

On the 2009 car I've noticed that the crome trimming round the doors are now all starting to dis-colour and are loosing the chrome look.

On the 2010 model the alloy wheels seem to be loosing their varnish finish and you can see the the outisde finish is starting to crack and blister.

Anybody having the same issues???

Mine was starting to get a bit rear endy, and the tyres were down to 3mm at the front, 4mm on the rear at 19k miles. A tyre is scrap at 3mm anyway as it no longer treads water, so I had 4 new boots fitted, problem solved. I also run mine at 36 PSI. What pressures are yours at and how many mm of tread do you have remaining?

Another thing to consider - are the cars identical spec? The 2 litre diesel and 1.6 petrol turbo's have a different rear suspension arrangement, which is available as an option on the 1.6 HDi and 1.6 petrol non-tubbies. To cut a long story short, it's a transverse linkage system that steadies the rear end, and it will make the cars feel different if one has it and one doesn't.

No, but I clean mine fairly regularly and wax these bits when I wax the paint. It works very hard for it's living so I take great pains to look after it.

No, but I clean the wheels thoroughly each wash, and when I wax the car I use AG wheel sealant on the rims. They look like new.

Depending on what you report back with your tyres (if they're nearly new and the pressures are fine you may have a problem), I would suggest all these ailments are representative of how the car is cared for. If in doubt though, get it to a dealers to be inspected.

Both cars are the same spec however mine only as about 4mm on the front tyres so I guess this may be the issue with the sliding problem. I'll get them changed and see what the result is. Chopper, how much did did you end up paying for your new boots?

Regards the alloy's, they look brand new becuase they are cleaned every week and every three months they are removed from the car and I fully clean them. This however as not stopped them cracking and peugeot have said that it's not covered and nor are the crome effect door trims becuase they are external to the car! Peugeot that is crap and you know it.

You could have problems with the wheel finish then if you're using a non-caustic cleaner and it's still failing. Might be worth getting the dealers taking a look at that? If you're not happy with the way that goes, then try the customer satisfaction thread mentioned above, as that relates to satisfaction with ones dealers.

I got my tyres via Black Circles, had them fitted at a local tyre gaff. Nearly £800 for the original Miches, but after much research I went for the same Falkens i had fitted to my olde 407. Very happy with them, and got them for a paltry £407 fitted, and it cured that wibbly wobbly rear end feeling.

My first 3008 was an absolute hound, and was rejected and duly replaced without much fuss. My 2nd has been hassle free, aside from an intermittently faulty handbrake switch (replaced under warranty with no dramas at all). With these 2 in mind the warranty has been applied to my total satisfaction with respect to both 3008s I've had, and hopefully you'll get the same joy.

Good luck.

This relates more to dealers rather than the product. As yet we don'#t know how supportive our chaps dealer will be over this, and as described above both PSA and my supplying dealer were both most excellent with warranty issues on both my 3008's, so I'm not sure really on what you base this? I mean, how many brand new Peugeots have you bought lately? I'm on my 10th consecutive brand spanker (11 if you're cheeky and count the replacement 3008), so I think I know whereof I speak. One car with serious faults replaced without hassle, 2 cars with minor faults repaired without hassle. That's a better that 70% reliability rate, and a 100% satisfaction rate. When you earn enough to buy numerous new ones and hammer them (not some used POS that someone else has already maltreated) then you might have a point. The only way they could "up their game" any higher for me would be to start giving me free cars.

It is crap, look a page back in the threads and you'll see I had a chrome (plastic) strip along the sill replaced under warranty with no hassle.

UK Tyres Online: Cheap Tyres & Car Servicing | Blackcircles.com - input your required tyre sizes and it will give a price range.

mine are 205/55r16, for 2 plus balancing and alignment £125.

ive been told if you have cheapo budget tyres, they may have more of the plastic material they add then rubber, hence back end slide....this is more so on wanli tyres.
