Which tyre would give you a better ride generally and on cornering and also when travelling down a bumpy lane on a 3008? Would fuel consumption be affected if changing from 17" to 18"?

The Activ and Sport come on 17s as standard, and the Exclusive on 18s.
The Sport grips and handles with aplomb, and rides absolutely superbly. I can't see that the 18 will make a significant improvement or loss in any area TBH. Just choose whatever floats your boat looks wise, and remember that 225/50 17s aren't that badly priced whereas 18s will make you sweat when you need new ones.

The 17"`energy saver tyres only allow you to tow a unit up to 1100kg wheraas the 18" non energy saver allow up to 1300kgs. I would prefer either 16" or 17" non energy savers as not too keen on 18". seems silly that the maximum towing weight is lower on this vehilce than the equivalent Picasso C4.

TBH, the 1.6 HDi has a job just getting itself moving, and to want to tow in excess of 1100kg with that motor is going to be interesting. Can't see that small diesel + DMF only just up the the job as it is + large towed payload is a clever idea anyway.
It seems silly that the C4 Picasso has a smaller boot than the 3008. It seems silly that the C4 Picasso doesn't handle or ride as well as the 3008. But then it's not silly at all. They're different cars intended for different market segments, and there is really no such thing as 'an equivalent C4 Picasso'. While they are closely related the 3008 is a significant redesign of the C4 Picassos substructure, and has a totally different rear suspension arrangement. Apples and pears.

I thought that the 1.6 diesel had a lot of oomph and torque. My mate tows with a Picasso, same engine, and has no issues.
PS I have since taken the new C4 Picasso for a test drive and do not like it at all. Electronic handbrake is on the dashboard! |

Well, I guess the 3008 1.6 HDi isn't bad, but it's hardly enough to be described as quick. 'Lively' maybe. Power to weight is somewhat less than a 107.
In the 3008s defence the gearing is fantastically well matched to the motor so its easy to make hay with what little is available. Perhaps I'm just spoiled with a Westfield and a V-Max in the stable.

The 3008 has definitley got a better matched gearbox to engine. On a test drive with the Picasso auto every time it changed gear, it felt as if you were putting on the brakes before it picked up again!
