Hi,
My wifes' 56reg 207 with 48k miles on the clock has recently started making an odd bad bearing-type noise around the engine. I narrowed it down (listening with a screw-driver) to the coolant pump area. When I took the cover off the timing belt I noticed that the belt had moved toward the edge of the cam pulleys, about 5mm off where it normally runs and the edge of the belt is chaffing the cover, a little damage to the belt already. What's the chance that it is the coolant pump and if not, what else could it be around that region? Checking with a screwdriver to the ear, the noise was worst when I was on the engine mounting. Thanks for any comments! |

I would say pump, idler or tensioner, if i was you i would have the belt replaced if it is damaged the kit comes with idler and tensioner, it is also a good idea to replace the pump with the belt, this will cover all bases.

Hi,
Ended up getting the job done today. The chaps were surprised the pump didn't make more of a noise, they reckon the water pumps' bearing had collapsed, so hence the timing belt moving and chaffing on the engine block. Thanks for the comments -C |
