Sounds like it Kieran, Im not familiar with the 206 clutch wise ie dual mass or single mass but if the noise stops when you press the pedal its a sure sign its that at fault.

You should have some breathing space then before it needs to come out. My one is in need of changing but warranty claim is being disputed, so its down to treating it gently till they sort it out.

It COULD be the release bearing that's at fault (very common on these) but thay normally make a noise when you push the clutch down. i.e. the opposite of what you've got. Check the gearbox oil level, if you're low on oil it could be a gearbox component running dryly until the oil circulates. When you push the clutch down the gearbox stops turning, hence silence!

Are they self adjusting / hydraulic on these?
If not, a bit more tension on the adjuster should cure it (for now )

should be a self-adjusting cable, although some were hydraulic.

I had this on my 407 , when i changed clutch it turned out to be one of the pulley `s , only had the noise in the morning from cold , once started for 5 mins it was gone all day until first thing next morning . (it wasn`t dangerous just a squeak )
