Default Rev counter issues

Hello all..

I just pick up a 206 V reg and when i was driving it the rev counter works but when it is idle it will not go back to 500ish revs it stays at 5K, When i drive the car also tho the rev counter will go off the clock and when i change gear it will go back to 5K revs...

The car is now off and it is sitting at 5K RPM...

What could be the problem with the rev counter? and also what will it cost to fix?

Anybody give some advice?

it just sounds to me as though the needle has somehow set to start at 5000 instead of 500, hope someone hasn't been messing around with the cluster before you bought the car, messing with the mileage.

Are 206 rev counters suspect mine has stopped working it was ok then I had my clutch replaced and now nothing everything else works on the cluster and I've checked the earth leads. I can't find any info about where the rev counter gets it's information to work so I don't know if there is a faulty connector somewhere
