Hi all,
My car is a Peugeot 206 1.4 petrol, 2002 plate. 72,000 miles on the clock. When I release the clutch in first (or reverse) gear, I feel a gentle thud from the engine as the clutch bites. Same when changing up to second. As I go up the gears it gets less of a thud. Plus, at higher revs (2500rpm+) I can feel slight vibration through the clutch pedal when changing gear. The clutch is recent and checks out OK. Could it be the engine mounts are worn/need changing? I have read that they are prone to premature wear on the 1.4 206's. I have checked the engine movement and it does move about an inch upon the clutch biting, but you can hear the gentle thud when it moves. I don't know how the mounts are constructed, but it could be wear and tear in the rubber. I'm thinking the bottom mount next to the clutch is the culprit. Which would seem obvious given the recent clutch. Would it be worth replacing all the mounts, or just the bottom one? If indeed it is the mounts. There are three holding the engine. Thanks in advance. |

hi
If the clutch is recent and you had no "thud" noise before clutch change may be you should take your car back to the garage that changed it. Obviously something is amiss and has not been replaced as it should.(If you have the reciept for work done) then ask them to take the car for a simple test drive and assessment...Got to be worth a try?? P.S i have known exhaust re-position/clamps to cause this thud when refitted after work done Last edited by Clobak; 11-30-2011 at 11:33 PM. |

Thanks for the reply. The clutch is actually over a year old, and the "clunk" started about 7 months ago. It just points toward an engine mount wearing, that's all. But I'm going to get the bottom one changed next weekend to see if there is any improvement. I just wanted to see if anyone else had any issues with 206 1.4's in this manner. I hear that the mounts are prone to premature failure on this model and I thought I may have that problem. Thanks.
