On my rear drum braked 206SW I am in the process of changing one of the wheel bearings, but I can't remove the bearing before I have removed that infernal retaining ring clip.
Now on all other makes of car when I have done such a job, these clips have small holes in lugs so that the special circlip pliers can be used, but in their wisdom Peugeot have used a clip with no such lugs or holes........... How the hell do you get the blessed ring clip out?? It wouldn't be so bad if the chamfers on the clip were the opposite way, but there is no way that you can click/flick them out with a pointed tool and of course the Haynes book of lies is absolutely no use whatsoever........ as is so often the case!! |

looking at haynes it pictures the removal using circlip pliers as you describe, so maybe it is an after market one. Anyway can you not grip a lobe in some pliers or mole-grips and pull harshly in wards towards the centre of the circlip circle. This should get the shoulder of the circlip out enough to bind and then do the opposite side. watch your face and eyes when in pings out though.

My local Renault garage here in Montignac who are very wellknown for being very capable of working on almost all makes of cars actually refuse to do this job as it has almost always always defeated them!! So tomorrow I am off to the main Peugeot agent some considerable miles away to see if they are able to perform the seemingly impossible task. |

All sorted.
I took the brake drum to a Peugeot main dealer and they had the offending circlip out in only a few seconds using their very special tool. As virtually nothing protrudes from the circlip there is absolutely nothing for conventional tools to grab hold of, so the only way to extract the blessed thing is by using the special tool that appears to have counter rotating cams that go into the grove and bend the circlip out of place. I have often thought that the Haynes books of lies go a bit too far when describing matters but in this case where they show a completely standard pair of circlip pliers being used, their inaccuracy really does take the biscuit!!!! |
