GTI180 Lambda sensor

I am having problems with the "Anti Pollution Control" signal and the engine warning light coming on. Also, there is a strong smell of fuel when the engine is shut down. (The car has only done 17,000 kms in 5 years and each journey is only, around, 4 kms)

I thought it may be a Catalytic Converter problem, but, I have been advised that it may be due to a faulty "Lambda sensor".

Can anyone advise where this is located? As far as I can tell, it looks like a large spark plug with a number of wires coming from it.

Not sure if 180's have one or two or where theyre located. Check down the manifold or before the CAT (and after if theres 2?)
