I have found a similar problem on here as i had a last week
This is said thread i found ''hi, my 206 is a 04 plate and has done this once or twice before but not like this. was driving today and when i was pressing the clutch down to change gear and bringing it up was just revving, the rpms were going crazy and the car was just say moving. i could also smell something burning. it eventually kicked in after about 10-20 seconds. when i got back in the car it then wouldnt start without pumping accelerator. but then drove ok. i am useless (i am a girl afterall!! haha) at anything mechanical. spoke to the garage and they said it sounds like its a "cuts" fault but they dont deal with them. any ideas? am i safe to keep driving? or am i going to make it worse? ive read that this is a common fault with peugots. '' I had the same problem, although i had pulled from a junction in second and the revs went wild and i was barely crawling along. Had to change up to first before it would pick speed up, and there was an awful acrid burning smell. Pulled over couldnt find a problem and drove fine after but have had nothing but problems ever since, although strangly not the said problem! I was wondering if anyone might know what couldve caused it and if it is actually safe? Like i above im also a girl but do have a vague idea of whats what

I had this problem a few months ago with my peugeot...i went to a normal garage and they did a diagnostic test on it twice but nothing so i decided to take it to a peugeot dealer instead (dreading at this point it would cost a bomb)...so i took it and they did a diagnostic test and it came back with that my thermistor failed and it needed changing it has something to do with the automatic clutch?? i dont know i cant quite remember now but anyway that was that and ever since i had it done my pugs been fine

Is it not the clutch slipping? It would explain the revs going up and the smell

I originally thought it was the clutch (dads a mechanic and he thought so too but he lives 300 miles away so cant check himself) Other half came home and took it out but he says the clutch seems to be fine now, and it hasnt done it since. Is in the garage tomorrow so will ask the mechanic to check it too..

Have you had any work done on the gearbox where they may have got oil on the clutch?

Trying not to be disrespectful but is it the way you drive. It does sound like a clutch problem.
