Hi, can anyone tell me for certain if the front hubs and cv joints on abs and non abs equipped 206's are interchangeable, before I waste any more money.
Was rebuilding the front end of our '99 1.6 8v Garros (non abs) prior to mot, new bottom arms, anti roll drop links and cv joints (one knackered but did both). Supplier sent cv joints with abs ring and insisted that these fit both abs and non equipped cars . Done the first side and after reassembly and test drive, the wheel bearing was shot. I put this down to having 'disturbed' it when disassembling and decided to replace it with a 2nd hand hub from breakers. The only available hub was an abs one, so went with it believing them to be interchangeable and just removed the sensor. All well. After rebuild and testing of the 2nd side, same issue, knackered bearing! Replaced hub assembly again with 2nd hand from breaker, this time non abs. Rebuild and test - Knackered bearing! Bought new cheap bearing and paid local workshop to press into hub. Rebuild and test - Knackered bearing! Bought new expensive bearing and paid peugeot dealer to press in. Rebuild and test - Knackered bearing! Same processes used to build both sides, only difference is the fitting of abs cv joints to both sides, abs hub fitted only to sound side, knackered side still has abs cv with non abs hub. Please help - it's driving me nuts, and emptying my pockets. |

Can't be 100% certain, but the hub carrier on my non-abs car has the drilling for the sensor. This suggests to me that the same part is used on both variants. If so, then it must follow that the cv joints are compatible. Why you should have had the grief you have had is a bit of a puzzle.
Can the hub be over-tightened and kill the bearing? Just a thought.

Thanks for response fred, bought an abs type hub from breaker and fitted yesterday, all seems to be well, touch wood, might just have been unlucky with previous rebuilds.
