Hi, looking to get some assistance with an ongoing issue...any advise / help would be greatly appreciated as I'm quickly running out of ideas...
![]() The car is a 2004, 1.6 206cc petrol, 48k miles and I've had it for 3.5years with no major issues. Over the last 3 months it has been used less frequently maybe once a week for short journey, 15-20miles. Don't know if that is significant or not. However, it was used one day last week with no problems and the following day I wanted to remove from the garage..upon trying to start it the error message "Engine Immobilizer Fault" appeared on the dash. It will not start but turns over ok. From what I can glean from various websites and a conversation with a Peugeot technician, this issue is related to the car not seeing the correct key. Is that correct?? I've tried several things; New battery in keyfob [both keyfobs exhibit the same issue] Disconnected vehicle battery and reconnected using 3 minute rule and following the BSI reset process at least 6 times Tried to jumpstart from the Vauxhall Vectra Flattened the battery and recharged to full New Peugeot battery .....all with no luck The keyfobs all work ok and appeared to be synch'd as the central locking will operate correctly The position is now that the car has gone into "Economy Mode Active" and still will not start. It doesn't display "Engine Immobilizer Fault" anymore but I suspect that it is hidden behind the Economy Mode message. How do you get the car out of Economy Mode Active to get back to my original fault message Is it possible to get error code messages from the car, and how would I do that? Would P.Planet help, I'm near Glasgow Any help would be great as I'm trying to avoid having to tow it to the Peugeot dealership..as I've heard horror stories about costs etc once they start work on ECU related problems. thanks |

This can be a COM problem also, not taking the unlock signal from the key.

Firstly, many thanks to Karl68s for using the PP2000 to recode the key and identify what is potentially the source of the problem...
PP2000 reported the following: Multifunction Display: No +ve permanent on the display Instrument Panel: Remote permanent fault; Engine speed info; Incorrect value Remote permanent fault; Coolant temp info; Incorrect value Engine ECU has not replied ABS or ESP ECU: Permanent fault; Absence of comms with engine ECU; Operating fault It appears that the Engine ECU has an issue as PP2000 cannot communicate with it. I initially thought maybe it is not powered and checked the fuses in the engine compartment fusebox in particular F4, F8, F15. What I have noticed is that when F15 is removed and the dc voltage is checked within the fuse holder, there is 0volts on either side with the ignition turned on. From the handbook, this is a 30A fuse and covers; Engine Control Unit + Ign coil+ Injectors + Throttle housing etc. Should one side not have +12v as a supply to the ECU. Removed the fusebox from its housing to check for anything obvious, but nothing. Checked the security of the x3 multiway plugs that connect to the engine ECU...all appear to be solidly fitting & ok, removed and replaced them. Is there any way to check that the ECU is being powered correctly? Does a replacement ECU need to be from the exact same year/model etc Will a salvage vehicle ECU work ok.. The display still shows "Economy Mode Active" and the car will not start. any suggestion / ideas very gratefully received... |
