Hi, my 1.4 hdi has a dangerous problem. every so often , although it is getting worse now, i will be happily driving along and all of a sudden i will lose all response from accelerator and the speed / revs will suddenly drop, and i have to either pump the throttle or dip the clutch before the i get any response back. The engine never completly cuts out and a light never gets thrown up. I have trawled the internet for hours but everything i find which is similiar says that the engine stopped completly which mine dont. I had the car plugged in at halfords last weekend and it had the following codes;
p0704 clutch switch input circuit p0571 c/control (which i don't even have) p0183 fuel temp A circuit h input p0404 EGR circuit range/performance p0233 fuel pump sec circuit intermittant po113 inlet air temp short circuit to a + or open socket They reset the faults, took it for a test drive and they didnt come back up. Was advised to clean the EGR valve so came home, cleaned it out and changed fuel / oil / air filters & gave it an oil change, but am now completly stumped on what to do! Am supposed to be doing a 600mile round trip this weekend and am really dont want to do it with this problem!

Check the gauze is not blocked in the fuel tank sender , access through back seat.

Does it take a few turns to get started?

The reason I ask is because you need to determine which codes, if any are relevant to your problem. Obviously if your car didn't play up, it wouldn't generally flag a fault, now that it has it would be wise to get them read again. Perhaps someone on here with PP2000 in your area could help with that? I don't know what Halfords use, but personally I wouldn't trust it. Phil Last edited by philkerman; 08-21-2011 at 04:35 PM. |

No it always starts first time
It was lacking in power and felt really sluggish before and after after we had the faults cleared, stayed the same for two days and power is now fine but this problem has started, will have to see about getting it plugged in again its just trying to find the time... Bet the exhaust is blocked. Remove the catalytic converter and check it.

Have already done that as exhaust needed welding just down from the cat and needed back box replacing so took it all apart and checked because it was lacking in power. Have managed to get my mechanic to squeeze it in he is going to get it plugged in 2moro. He said he thinks it might be the 'fuel temp sensor circuit switch'? as it only does it once the car has warmed up.Will see what happens 2moro...

Its not going to be a fuel temperature sensor. That won't make any difference. Get the p codes off the diagnostic check tomorrow and post them up here.
