Default 206 2.0 hdi problems help please

Hi guys im new to the forum and to the world of diesel cars, and i have a few questions for you.

Firstly when the car is cold it just will not pull off and pick up speed as i feel it should do or like the car does when its warm.

secondly the car when at full running temp or cold is a pig on inclines on the motorway or A roads it feels like it does not pull well and struggles to maintain speed, this is the same when on the flat and i dont feel confident on overtaking on busy mornings on the motorway due to the time it takes to pick up pace.

and last of all my fuel consumption is poor.

the car is a 2000 206 2.0 hdi, i have only had the car a couple of days and feel that this should perform much better than it does.

the car does feel quite nippy around town but only when warm, very disappointing on steep inclines and when a sudden turn of pace is required on the motorway.

please can you suggest things i should try to remedy the poor performance of the car.

sorry for the long post and thanks for reading this.

(i have not come from a quick car to this i was originally driving a classic 1275 mini and thought this car should perform reasonably well)

Default Owner Of 206

Hi,

i have had my 206 2ltr HDI for two years and find the car to be a good nippy car that will pull away pretty good once it kicks in.
Its good on diesel but the only down side i appear to be having is starting it up in the cold. a few times last year it did not start (it was cold tho) and now i see the problem slowly coming back tho it is just about starting.
any colder i feel im gunna be with out a car, not sure what the problem could be yet but dont feel its my Battery.

For you it's probably glow plugs, few £ each and should see you right.

I'm assuming at this point you don't actually have any lights on indicating a problem?

Do you know the history of the car before it was in your possession?

I'd cover all the basics first, oil/filter change, air filter, fuel filter, dump in a fairly high concentration of redex (or equivalent) and see how it goes.

Perhaps check for vacuum performance for the turbo / egr side of things, and check for any slight boost leaks.

Getting a diagnostics done (assuming no engine light) from someone on here would only really serve as a means to monitor boost pressure etc to see if everything is working as intended.

hi guys i sorted my problem and it was down to a broken maf sensor, i have since replaced this and all is well, much better on diesel and goes like i expected it to, all in all i am now happy with the car although when cold it sounds a little clattery so the belts will be changed just after christmas as a precaution as i am not sure as to when they were last changed.

Nath i hope you get your cold running issues sorted and i am sorry i am unable to help as i am new to the world of pug and diesel cars.
