Some friends were coming to stay with us yesterday and had aproblem with their car on the way which meant that I had to tow it the last 4 miles. It dumped all its oil out of the auto box after a run on the M3. The car had been in to a garage for a partial transmission oil change 2 weeks ago.
After jacking it up this morning and having a good look around, there is no obvious place where the oil came out. No missing drain plug or anything. It looks like the oil came out under pressure as the whole n/s underside of the car is covered in trans fluid. The only thing that I would say looks supect and had some oil on it was the control unit bolted to the rear of the box. Is this a common problem on this model and any ideas on what happened??? |

By the way you may have damaged it even more by towing it! Autos are not meant to be towed.

I know it would seem obvious but the engine/gearbox casing is immaculately clean without any drips on it. It seems like it sprayed out at high pressure down the bottom the car and then stopped. Spent ages under it trying to find the source. Need to put some more oil in the box and have a look after it is started up again. Is that a control unit on the back of the box and if so, does it have a pressure sensor in it as that seems the only thing that has oil on it. Towed it very slow as aware that they are not meant to be towed.
