hi im having the same problem with reverse lights on my GTI.which fuse have you replaced and did it also cause the rear left light to stop working
I also had the speedo problem last year.i took the dash apart and disconnected all the dials then re connected them which at the time didnt fix the problem but a couple days after i gave the car a really good blast down the motorway and the speedo came back to life. Not sure what the cause was but it hadnt been working for about 2 months before i done the work to it and havnt had a problem since.
The ABS problem iv come across before.supposedly its a sensor to do with the hand brake when you have your brakes replaced. It controls the strength of pressure put on the rear brakes.it gets stuck and needs a good wack to release it

would that be somthing to do with the load sencing valve on the rear axle?

as for the dash problem its got to be somthing more then that as it keeps popping the fuse?

yeah. Thats it.iv never actually come across the problem myself but somebody in a garage was telling me about it.Its worth checking that first before taking it to a garage and them ripping you off.

The dash problem if its blowing the fuse sounds like you have a damaged cable.
There is a section above the fuses under the steering wheel where the wiring loom can sometimes catch on an edge of metal.I had a similar problem with my 2002 quicksilver 206 but it cut into my main ignition cable and nearly burnt the car out.If it is that same bit of metal which it sounds like it could be.Dont put a heavier fuse in like i did cos it could cause a fire.Try and get under there and find the damaged cable and try putting some hard rubber on the metal where its chaffing

thats quite a good idea i never thought of that will have a look in a bit i think,

its strange because i change the headlight bulbs the other night because the driver's side one had blown so i got a pair of upgraded ones from halfords but ended up taking the headlights out because it was to tight an all of thease problems have popped up since then just wondering if i have trape a wire while i was putting the headlights back in? but surley the headlights would not work if i traped a wire?

The headlights are on a seperate wiring loom so you wouldnt get those cables trapped cos they are kept well away from the main loom.
Sounds to me that you are having all the same problems as me lately.lol.I was out changing bulbs and fixing my GTI today.Getting it winter ready.
I rekon these cars go on self distruct after 10 years but they are too fun to get rid of.
I have a good supplier of second hand GTIs and parts so if you ever need any bits just let me know.My number is 07714029911.
Have you had the rear axle replaced yet.Its the most common part to go on these cars.I went through 4 axles with my quicksilver and im nearly ready to change the one on my GTI.The bearings break then it grinds a groove into the shaft.Once that happens its new axle time. Can be very expensive if you dont know how to do it yourself.Iv spent the last 10 years modifying and customising these cars.Iv pretty much come across every problem they have.
Also.if you get the rattle on the bootlid.Thats caused by the boot catch working itself loose or getting knocked out of position

I no what you mean far to much fun! I just put a raceland manifold, a de-cat, and had a straight pipe made up removing the middle box with a standard box on the rear next is to sort air flow out and re-map

Thats not bad for that year of car.my GTI is just coming up to 206k and still runs like a dream..picked it up for £600 in a scrap yard and also picked up a 2002 ritten off 1 at the same time.basically changed all the interior for the newer model and rebuilt the front end. Got colour coded bumpers for it and now it looks pretty mint.got new wheels for it.quad front and rear lights to go on.have put k&n filter on.s/s twin back box and window tints.just had all brakes uprated and iv got £5k worth of ICE to fit into it over xmas so its ready for next years sound off competitons at all the car shows.Once iv done all of that il decide wever to drop a new engine in.Just depends how long this one will last.but at 206k it aint doing too bad,its been a motorway car all its life.
Not sure about its history but seems to of been well looked after.
Your one should be pretty quick once you have done the work to it.
Im a bit worried about doing tune ups to mine cos of the milage but i have had it off the clock when a stupid cellica vvti tried racing me but the poor sod got left behind. I also beat a lotus elise which i was pretty proud of as i didnt think my car was quicker than them but they are slower than most people think

had a look over the car last night i took the light out to look at the reverse light bulbs and found the buld holder to have a fair amount of rust on the little metal circuits but the other lights are working fine? would this cause the fuse to pop everytime i put the car in reverse?

or am i looking at a faulty reverse light switch?
