Default Phase 1 205 GTI 1.9 Head Gasket

Hey Im new, I bought my car at the start of the month... it lasted 12 hours before the head gasket blew out at the back of the block (according to my mechanic) I was toying with the idea of tackling this myself but further reading has sort of put me off this as there a many things that can go wrong! Anybody here tackled this and thinks otherwise? Better still any north east members who would like to earn some cash and do it for me!

give a bell to hoddy's recovery in felling, gateshead....they are cheap and fast there...i got a clutch for my 307 replaced for £120 where other places were offereing to do it for around £200! they deal with lorries, taxis, coaches etc so they are a licenced and decent place.

thats if you dont want the current garage to do it for some reason...if i knew what i was doing i would of done it for you...but im a techy not a mechy
