Priced at under R90 000, Peugeot's baby 107 is set to hit the booming South African small car market in November.

Launched at the Auto Africa motor show in Johannesburg today, the car will be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with double overhead camshafts and 12 valves.

The little mill produces 51kW at 6000rpm while maximum torque output is 95Nm at 3600rpm — good for a top speed of 161km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 14.2 seconds. Combined fuel consumption for the city runabout is a claimed 4.6l/100km.

We may be getting a diesel engine at a later date.

The new arrival, developed alongside the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1, will join the other small Peugeots on the market: the 206, 207 and 1007.
