After reading your thread and other replies, I feel sorry that you felt your 107 wasn't the car for you. though I would like to point out that to some of the comments on here are very clearly from non experienced enthusiasts. Japanese engineering is infact the most reliable you can buy. French brands are destined for countless problems, especially Renault, and at top cost to repair! beleive me, i've been a mechanic my whole life and around some of the best there is in the UK. the Toyota Aygo also being the top of the range of the 3 city bugs out of the 107 and C1. There's even little joke in most garages that when a Toyota or Nissan comes in for a service or problem, you can almost guarantee someone will say "Oh, battery needs replacing?"

To the scraping problem you seemed to be having, these small city bugs are equiped with ABS breaking systems and good quality disks, the power to weight ratio is very effective for nippy speed, and so ABS will occure when maybe slowing down from an uneven hill to a stand still. what many people seise to realise is that ABS works like that, it releases the tension and then re-applies to allow maximum force to stop. it's designed for high speed breaking and slippery/uneven surfaces. so maybe that was your problem.

"Warranty" is a costly policy that I really do despise, and in some cases make you spend more money on the chances of a breakdown when it's cheaper to simply wait for these things to happen (if they do) and pay for the repair itself.

I seem bitter in my reply but honestly, these city bugs are one of the best reasonable reliable cars you can buy right now in my opinion (owning one)
they have crunchy gear boxes in all of them, its a known downside, but there's generally nothing wrong with them, its just down to cheaper parts to save you money, even replacing them at a decent garage such as my own isn't expensive.

Er, I'm on my 3rd 107 and have never had even the slightest crunch through the gears...

On old cars pre-2009 the clutch and gear change were fine if you could drive properly, but was very intolerant of poor technique, cack handed ness, abuse or lazy boy tricks like holding the clutch in when sat at a red light. A modified clutch went on to later cars, but anyone who can actually drive a car properly will be fine.

Brakes are almost identical to the faster and heavier 205 GiT so no issues there.

Some people find the ABS a little keen to kick in, but in my experience the 2 common denominators are poorly set tyre pressures, and a Roger Ramjet gene which affects the suffers ability to make fine adjustments to a brake pedal with their right foot.
