Am I right in thinking that the power steering is electrical? If so, it looks as if your alternator isn't kicking out enough power via the battery to operate the pump. So either the pump's sucking in power to no effect or the alternator is dying or your battery's dying or there are poor connections (live and/or earth) around the place.
Cheap possibilities; Is the battery holding its charge, is it topped up, is it behaving well (e.g. you can start the car with the headlights on)? Have you checked the tension on belt on the alternator and made sure that there's no oil on it (which may cause it to slip)? |

It's mechanical PAS on these.
If the PAs has vanished, and the alt light is also coming on, then a failed drive belt seems likely.
