Hi one and all,
I have picked up this car (M Reg) cheap and know it needs some work (slight oil leak, shot offside rear shock, exhaust blowing, new glow plugs, headlight unit needs replacing etc.), however there is one thing I really am not sure about at the moment. The car goes OK (with the above known problems) however I get a knocking noise on cornering. It seems more apparent / louder when cornering to the left and only occurs if you have a bit of acceleration on (enough to maintain speed through the corner is enough). The harder you corner, the louder the noise although if you coast round you don't get it at all, or only very slightly. The quicker you are going, the quicker the knocking! Any thoughts or ideas on what to look at first? My first thought would normally be bearings, but my experience with worn bearings etc. is a grind / droning noise whereas this is an obvious knocking. Thanks in advance. |

That would make sense actually, now I think about it. I had an old 3.0e MkI Capri many many moons ago that had loose bolts in the center of the drive shaft, that made a similar knocking on acceleration, although a fair bit louder, probably due to having a lot more power.
